At
the start of each session, we take the
register. The
morning and afternoon sessions differ at
this point as the afternoon session begins with a packed lunch,
followed by quiet reading time.
From
this point on though the sessions continue
in the same way. We talk to the
children as a group and introduce the day's
topics. Children then choose between
creative free play, topic-related activities
and set tasks. (Creative play includes play dough, painting,
playing with sand, water, the home corner, the
dressing up box, the book corner for
quiet time and exploring out in the garden).
During the morning session the children are
offered milk, juice or water and a snack.
(Afternoon children will obviously have had
lunch instead, but water is available at all
times for all children). Quiet time and
stories follow this.
There
is always an
opportunity for physical play, which may
include team games, music and movement, the
tunnel, tricycles, balls, hoops etc. This may be indoors or outdoors,
depending on the weather.
The children then
gather for circle time, when the day's
activities are reviewed and interests
shared.
The session ends with songs or
rhymes and/or musical instruments.
Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum -
2009
SEJAR Inspection results = "Outstanding" in
all areas!
LeapFrogs
follow the Government's
EYFS Curriculum. This
enables children to have more choice to
learn through things that really interest
them, with adults bringing learning
objectives to them via play and shared
exploration. Through continuous
provision/creative play such as sand, water,
play dough and art the children can re-visit
the things they enjoy until they are ready
to move onto something else, with the adult
enhancing the opportunity to learn through
different materials and equipment.
We strongly encourage parental involvement
in the children’s learning, believing that
good home/school communication is
imperative. To this end we offer many
opportunities for parents to join in with
what is going on in the classroom either by
staying for a session, accompanying us on
visits or perhaps by sending in things of
interest relevant to our current topics. Our
open door policy ensures parents can speak
to a member of staff whenever they have
concerns or questions.
When a child starts at Pre-school they are
given a “Learning Journey” record book.
Inside, their progress is recorded via
pictures, narratives and examples of the
‘work’ they produce. This is a working
document which is sent home every term with
a short assessment of what the child has
done.
Parents are also given the opportunity to
comment on the term and how they think their
child is progressing. It is an excellent way
to keep parents in touch with achievement
and their child’s overall wellbeing whilst
at Pre-school. Many parents have told us how
they enjoy sharing the book with their child
whilst at home. |
